A Cleveland, Ohio native, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in English / Creative Writing from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. After a short stint as a location scout for Candid Camera, I pursued a decade-long career in television production, first producing local news and then serving as script supervisor on local and national television commercials, producing home and garden segments for the Do-It-Yourself Network and eventually creating, writing and producing a regional Emmy-nominated documentary film.
Simultaneously, I began building my freelance writing portfolio, penning stories for a wide range of outlets, fromCincinnati Magazine to The Business Courier, The Cincinnati Enquirer, America Magazine, Chicago Magazine, The Ohio Press Network and PBS. I was also a Contributing Editor for Cincinnati Magazine, where I won numerous awards and my interview subjects ranged from world-famous architects to heroin addicts, a Pulitzer-prize-winning holocaust survivor and victims of human trafficking.
Later, thanks to decades of research and interviewing skills, I added corporate recruiting to my toolkit and began working freelance for retained search firms seeking c-suite candidates for executive-level positions.
For 25+ years, I have written on (and worked with) a highly diverse range of people and topics,. Most of all, I have enjoyed telling stories that introduce readers to people, places and ideas they might not otherwise know.
I have also recently ventured into the blog / podcast space, with a new personal project: my bi-monthly Verbal Journal...ism Substack (see below).
